This has been an interesting project for myself as landlord. I purchased a promotional shipping container from Authentic Ovens, which was setup to showcase their pizza oven and grill at shows. The floor folds down and doors hinge open etc to create an interactive building. Having my first lease fall over after a month, I thought how difficult could it be to run a pizza business? So I opened it 3 weeks later and created Rakau (Māori for Wood). I had added toilets and kitchen to another 20ft shipping container behind, then connected to front. Also adding a covered polycarbonate verandah. It now sits in a mature garden and is quite the spot to enjoy in Arthurs Point. Currently one of the top rated pizzas businesses in Queenstown…It was quite hard to run a pizza business… But once I understood it, it has flown. Combining architectural knowledge with hospitality experience has certainly meant we are better able to combine these skills for our clients.
